Hi Folks,
I received this email from the NHLBI
Division Director of the unit that funds my rural obesity
research.
The key part to notice in the first website
listed is that the Challenge Grants are a small part of the overall Stimulus
Funding opportunities at NIH. Announcements for the other components will
be released in the coming days.
So with respect to the Challenge Grants,
here is what I would recommend. First, take a deep breathe, then ask
yourself two questions: “Does my research idea fit closely with one of the targeted
areas?” and “Do I have expertise and preliminary work (e.g., pilot data
or published studies) to support my proposal? IF the answer is “Yes” to
both of these questions, I would recommend that you apply. If it is not,
then I would suggest that you think twice before going ahead with a Challenge
Grant application—Remember there will likely be other avenues for you to apply
for stimulus funding.
Feel free to let me know if you would like
to discuss a potential proposal.
Best,
Mike
