A Special Issue of the FYI Funding Newsletter is now available at http://research.ufl.edu/fyi (click on “View Current Issue” to review latest funding opportunities).

Today’s FYI issue is dedicated to American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding opportunities announced after the publication of the Friday, March 6, 2009 issue of the FYI Newsletter (also available at http://research.ufl.edu/fyi).

ARRA funding opportunities are updated daily on the Office of Research homepage (http://research.ufl.edu), as well as the Research Support Unit website - http://research.ufl.edu/researchsupport/.

Please also note the following issues regarding ARRA opportunities:

1.       NIH/NCRR Construction (C-06) and Renovation (G-20) applications are limited in number and will be determined the Office of Research.  If faculty have an idea they wish to discuss please contact Dr. Sobha Jaishankar in the OR as soon as possible.

2.       NIH High End Instrumentation grants (S-10) and Shared Instrumentation grants have no limit on number of applications, but there CANNOT be DUPLICATION of instruments from any one institution.  Please forward any intent to apply for HEI and SIG equipment to Dr. Jaishankar as soon as possible.

In addition, the NCRR requires a plan for maintaining and operating these new pieces of equipment.  The obligation (and approval) for these costs belong to the laboratory, Center/Institute, Department or College.  These approvals should be obtained early in the grant writing process with appropriate support letters to accompany the application.  In certain instances the OR may entertain a match request with participation of the  laboratory, Center/Institute, Department or College.

Lastly, justification must be strong for these projects to receive funding.

The Office of Research has published an Economic Impact Statement to be used when applying for Recovery Act grants.  The document can be accessed at http://research.ufl.edu.   Please note that the direct impact of each grant application with respect to jobs created and/or retained has to be included in the statement by the Principal Investigator.
